Feathers are the quills from the goose's back and wings, which you can feel the vein of when touched and which eventually poke through the fabric and come out. Down is the most beautiful, softest, warmest part of the goose (the "feathers" from the belly and neck that don't feel veiny to the touch), while downy feathers are also beautiful but have a slight vein.
